Generally, living in Taipei is mostly easy. Easy walk to get to work; easy taxi/bus/metro ride to countless locations in the city; easy access to so many varieties of Asian food. Time goes by and I hardly notice. Last Thursday was not easy. Around 11am, I noticed the floor wobbling and the lights stirring. After maybe 2 seconds, I realized I was in the midst of an EARTHQUAKE and it continued for 10 more seconds.
On Thursday, there was a 5.8 earthquake centered 12 miles off the eastern coast of Taiwan.
Reviewing earthquaketrack’s data, I am surprised that Taiwan is more seismically active than both Northern and Southern California. Both areas in California have more earthquakes but the magnitude is pretty benign.
